Emergency Information


If you are the victim of abuse and need emergency shelter, support or information call the Domestic Violence Intervention Center at (706) 736-2499, 24 hour service.

If you need immediate medical attention contact your family doctor or go to the emergency room of your local hospital. You may call from the hospital for shelter at (706) 736-2499.

If you call the police (911) and you wish to report the assault, you may want to ask the officer to:
  • assist you in obtaining emergency medical attention,
  • assist you in contacting the Intervention Center for emergency housing,
  • file a report on the incident.

If you wish to press charges:
  • request the officer at the scene to file a police report,
  • go to your local law enforcement agency to file a complaint,
  • have picture if you are concerned about a person who is battered, call the Intervention Center for information and support.


Temporary Protective Orders
Victims of battering may gain immediate protection from their abuser through a civil remedy know as a Temporary Protection Order. With this process, it is not necessary to have an attorney or to file any divorce or legal separation papers. For further information, contact the County Court or Domestic Violence Intervention Center at (706) 736-2499 or 800-333-HAVEN OR 800-799-SAFE.
